Travel Diary // Amelia Island, FL

A few weeks ago I attended a conference for my day job, which isn’t typically a blog-worthy topic at all. But not every work conference is held at a truly vacation-worthy spot, so I thought I’d share a few photos of my time in Amelia Island, Florida.

Prior to booking the trip, I had never even heard of this idyllic little slice of Florida. Right off the coast of Jacksonville and less than an hour from the airport, Amelia Island is only 13-miles {interestingly, the same as Manhattan} and is known for its untouched nature preserves, stretches of white sand beaches, southern charm and of course… golf.

I stayed at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort, which was huge! It has unobstructed views of the Atlantic Ocean, multiple pools with fire pits, AND cabanas on the beach {everybody’s favorite!}.  While I spent mooooost of every day inside a conference room, I had a few brief opportunities to enjoy the resort, strolling before sunset, reading on the beach, and watching the palm trees from my room.

On top of that, the food at the Omni was deee-licious. We had the chance to meet the head chef who created a greenhouse on the resort and is focused on sourcing local, sustainable ingredients. Everything from burgers to salads, seafood to fresh veggies was yummy and unique {we had many meals there during our stay and they didn’t disappoint once}.

We sadly didn’t leave the resort for the entire trip {#firstworldproblems}, but from what I’ve read, there is plenty to do throughout the island and its actually full of history, too. However, I can say without a doubt that the Omni would be an amazing place to vacation. I mean… I could definitely watch a sunset like this every day, couldn’t you?
