ho hey ~ lumineers inspired triptych

About this time last summer, T-man and I discovered The Lumineers and their song, “Ho Hey” was just starting to get picked up. Have you seen the video, by the way? You probably have since it has 80 million YouTube views, but still… it seems to give such a peek into what the band is really like and it depicts a a party I would SO want to attend.

Today, it may be a little overplayed and not as exciting as it was last summer. BUT, I still think their lyrics are some of the simplest and sweetest ways of saying ‘I love you’. In fact, the moment I heard it, I envisioned scenes from our wedding playing with that as the theme song {especially because of the NYC reference} and I still hope we can incorporate it in some way if we make a wedding video.

But, more importantly, we’ve had an empty space above our couch for awhile. When we first moved in, we bought an old coffee sack and hung it there, but that didn’t seem to work since it was narrow and tall. Given the couch is pretty wide, I sparked to the idea of hanging multiples of something there — they didn’t need to be tall, but they needed to fill expanse of the couch.

One Ikea trip later and we had 3 simple frames to fill the space, but no art to fill them. With wedding expenses abounding, we have yet to purchase anything months later, so I set out to create my own, at least as a temporary filler. Once I realized the lyrics “I belong with you. You belong with me, You’re my sweetheart” make the perfect triptych {a fancy photography/art work my little sister taught me}, I knew what I wanted to create…

I’m not usually a pink person, but I thought the sweetness of the lyrics really called for it. I’m also crushing on this font right now, which also looks very sweet without being too formal. And the ombre is just one of my favorite elements.

Since I have literally no pinks in my apartment and my color scheme in the living room is more greens and teals, I’m leaning more towards something like this — and I love just how versatile the design is.

For me, now all that’s left is to find a printer and get these babies hung up…
