a place to call our own

You get what you negotiate quoteI recently saw this image on a friend’s Instagram feed {anyone know the original source?} and it couldn’t be more appropriate for our announcement.

If you’re following me on Instagram, you got a sneak peek… T-man and I bought our very first house!!We bought a house! | jessalayne.comWe’ve already spent several late nights rearranging things, unpacking boxes, and even building a little Ikea furniture, but this weekend, we really focused on enjoying our new backyard, which is a major plus for Petey Mac.

We even spent a good 30 minutes debating what kind of tree we have out there…

Tree-and-LeaveIn case you’re curious, it’s a silver maple!

We’d been on the house hunt since early April, but things were put on hold leading up to the wedding, not only because of how busy we were but {somewhat serendipitously}, inventory in the neighborhood and in our price range was very low. But, very shortly after our honeymoon, we noticed a listing for a recently flipped home, just a few blocks beyond our “ideal” neighborhood but well within our price range.

I don’t think either of us really wanted to dive right into another offer {we’d already put out three}, so interestingly we left our would-be home not feeling that into it. But, something kept nagging at both of us and after a second visit to double-check our gut feeling {I like to trust but sometimes have to test my gut}, our offer was in! A stressful 6 weeks later, it’s ours and we couldn’t be happier.

Even though it’s recently flipped, there are still plenty of projects and decorating to share as we get settled. My goal will be to have some semblance of a home tour up on the blog by next summer – everything will hardly be done by then but it’s something to work towards!

On top of that, as totally novice homebuyers — and ones who once asked my parents how anyone EVER saves enough for a downpayment on a house — I hope to answer some house hunting and buying questions along the way, too.

For now, I leave you with this adorable print I saw today on Joss & Main that just may inspire one of my four bedrooms!
