i wish i was having a hallowine party

Did you catch yesterday’s exciting announcement? If you did, you know we’re in the midst of moving and settling into our very first house! We couldn’t be more thrilled about the house and happy to be creating a home for ourselves to enjoy for several years to come {if we’re lucky…we’ve been moving nearly every year since college}.

The only downside to this early part of the process is that it really limits our entertaining options. Although we’ve had a few visitors, the house is nowhere near ready for a full housewarming, unless of course that housewarming is actually an obstacle course challenge around random shelves, candles, and “giveaway” piles we have strewn about.

But, having a house certainly makes me dream up party ideas and lately, I’ve had my mind on a not-so-average Halloween party — a Hallowine party!

My initial inspiration came from the Zazzle party invitations and I just loved the play on words. I would recreate the design and wording of the invitation myself using my favorite Paper Source products — their version of kraft paper cards, black envelopes, with hand-written addresses in gold ink.

I don’t usually love store-bought holiday decorations, especially at Halloween when black & orange gets to be a little much for me {admittedly, I’m also not a huge orange fan}. So this party would be decked out in black & burlap with some chevron pattern thrown in for good measure. I’d like to DIY decorations, such as the Better Homes & Gardens black silhouettes above and painted white pumpkins and gourds. I also love the idea of a very simple and inexpensive favor to thank guests for coming.

Depending on how enthusiastic your friends are about Halloween, you could even ask them to dress in black instead of costumes to work with the theme {of course, black-themed costumes would be acceptable — cats, witches, etc.}. In my case, I was already planning for a chic, black version of a circus ring leader that I thought would make sense for the hostess of this Hallowine party.

My version would obviously be a little less Victoria’s Secret, a little more realistic house party version. Tomorrow I’ll share some sources for how you could recreate this look!

While we don’t have Hallowine to look forward to this year, Halloween will still be an adventure for us since we’ve never had trick-or-treaters while living in apartment buildings. The candy is already on display in a black & gold pumpkin from HomeGoods, perfect for next year’s Hallowine party!
