bubbly decorates // the couch hunt

Today I’m back with another installment of Bubbly Decorates, where I share my love for all things home decorating and interior design. Through this series, I hope you may find a bit of inspiration or learn about something you want to try in your own home!

In our house, we spend a fair amount of time on our couch, reading a book or watching TV, visiting with guests, working on our laptops, and {confession time} it can even be a place to enjoy a few meals. With SO many uses, I want to be sure my couch is the kind of place where you really enjoy curling up and settling in.

Doesn’t this couch on the left look particularly cozy? Give me a soft blanket and a magazine, and I don’t think I’d get up for hours…

Since a couch is also typically the largest piece of furniture in any room, it can easily become a focal point for your living room design, as well. The options are endless – you can use colors, fabrics or even just the shape of sofa to bring personality to your living room.

Don’t want to go with a bold color? Even a tan or gray sofa in a non-traditional style can have a ton of impact. Plus, layering any neutral-colored sofa with pillows and blankets instantly changes the feel of a living room!

See what I mean?

In addition to being a physically large item, a couch is also likely to be one of the biggest investments in your home. To prevent buyer’s remorse, I think it’s important to do your research and weigh your options carefully, balancing the designs you love with the functionality you need. But where to start?

Here are a few quick tips to consider during your couch selection process:

1 // Take time to think about how you use your living room space and what you’ll be using the couch for most often. It’s worth living without a couch or keeping a couch you dislike for a few weeks longer to make sure you buy the right thing.

2 // Go to the store and sit on several couches, analyze the seat depth and back height – I can’t stress this enough! You might love how it looks but it’s arguably more important that you enjoy sitting on it { at least if you spend as much time on it as I spend on mine} !

We currently have the York from West Elm, and while I like it’s clean lines and deep seats, I can’t say it’s my dream sofa. Even though I went to the store and tested it out, our purchase was made fairly quickly after buying our house and I wish I’d taken more time to consider my options.

If you’re couch hunting, here are some of my favorites to get you started:

As you can see, I float somewhere between a structured, neutral couch with straight lines and a tall back { imperative for comfortable lounging, if you ask me } and a bolder colored couch with rolled arms or a bit of personality.

What about you? Do you have a couch you love? If not, what does your dream couch look like?
