The 6 Best Swimsuits with a Little Extra Coverage

Last summer, T-man and I made a quick trip to visit a friend in Los Angeles. During a little pool party among primarily Los Angelenos, I noticed a trend that took me quite by surprise — barely there bikini bottoms. I’m not just talking…

“She wore an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini”

But actually the smallest bikini bottoms you’ve ever seen. I’ve since been educated that these are what’s called a “Brazilian” style bikini bottom and I’m sure many of you out there could rock them like the glam divas you are, but for me… it’s a total no-go.

Luckily, the opposite of the itsy bitsy bottoms also seems to be trending now. From high-waisted bottoms to one-pieces with sexy details to updated tankinis with peplums, the swimsuit market for those of us that want just a little more coverage–without reverting to your trusty swim team Speedo–seems to be in full swing. I haven’t had or even shopped for a one piece swimsuit in ages, but kept finding several that I liked during my search for the perfect Cabo swimsuit.

With my long torso, one pieces can be tough, though. So I’ve rounded up six of the best swimsuits that offer just a touch of extra coverage. What do you think of these tasteful options for your next beach trip { and by all means, rock that Brazilian if that’s what you’re feeling! }?

I love the plunging necklines and cut-outs in the three one-piece options I found, but am not sure how they will fit for longer torsos. I’ve also been lusting over the Kortni Jeane gold striped peplum top, but it’s been sold out for awhile. She has tons of mix-and-match color options if you hop over to her site, though!

The braided sides and back on the black Target option keep things sexy, but the high waist offers some nice added coverage. If you’re swinging by Target’s website, this “midkini” is another great option. Who doesn’t love a good polka dot?

What’ll you be wearing to the beach this year? I’d love to see your favorites in the comments, too!

I found a high waist bottom and a halter top that I loved for Hawaii. It was the first time I’d worn a two piece in probably 8 years. It’s great that there are more options to help women feel more comfortable!
