april monthly goals

After my big announcement last week, it may be obvious why I’ve struggled to keep up with the monthly goals I planned in January. I’ve felt so out of routine, so lacking a normal schedule that it was hard to focus on even day-to-day goals like drinking more water or reading before bed { although I did attempt and somewhat successfully did both }.

Call me crazy, but with the move just a handful of days away { WHAT?! }, I’m thinking that a set of monthly goals is exactly what I need. Looking ahead, we have 4 days of packing, 2 move days, 3 days of cross-country driving, and 12+ days living out of a suitcase. I’m exhausted just thinking about it, but I’m actually really ready to get this adventure on the road, literally and figuratively.

April should be a pretty fabulous month…

With so much in flux each day and week of April, my hope is that these monthly goals will help me look back on April and not just see it as a whirlwind of activity and a blur of movement, but instead be able to celebrate a few small, but manageable achievements that were just for me.

And that’s really what’s at the core of these monthly goals, anyways. Not an attempt to look more productive, add more stress or to-do’s, or even to drive ourselves to greatness or insanity, depending on how you look at it. My monthly goal setting sessions are really a way to give myself { ourselves, if you’re participating! } a few small victories and moments of positive reflection.

It’s SO easy to let a whole month zoom by without really appreciating any of the little moments. But, quickly scribbling down goals that I can refer back to { or blogging about them, in my case } can help us appreciate the every day and celebrate the little victories along the way.

My April mood board is filled with a mix of bright colors, lively and happy moments, and a healthy does of New York City imagery. There’s a lot on my mind and plenty of adventure that lies ahead, so I’m going to focus on a few key monthly goals:

Blog along the way — in past months, I’ve held myself to blogging 3 days a week and while I still have that number in the back of my head, I really just want to ensure I’m sharing our journey as it unfolds, not sticking to a rigid publishing calendar.

Back-up our files — before we put our entire life on a moving van, I’m dead set on backing up all of our digital files and photos so nothing horrible happens in the move.

Enjoy the ride & practice patience — two separate thoughts but related to the same mentality I want to maintain. Not everything will go perfectly in a cross-country move. Period. Let’s try not to sweat it.

Plan for spring investment pieces — shopping has always my go-to when I’m stressed and mentality exhausted. Instead of binge shopping when I’m supposed to be downsizing { 750 square feet is SMALL! }, I’m going to put that energy into picking out a few key investment pieces that will work perfectly in our new NYC lifestyle. I’m open to your shoe, bag, and clothing recommendations!

Formalize a bucket list — leaving NYC 3 years ago, I didn’t feel like I’d tapped all NYC had to offer. Now that we’re back, I want to create an epic NYC bucket list and start checking things off!

Reading & drinking more water — I think these show up on every monthly list in some form or another because I love to read and am constantly trying to drink more water. Any suggestions on either front?

So that’s it guys — all the things I hope to achieve this month amidst our move to New York City.  I would also love to hear what you’re planning this month, whether it’d be trips, parties, or your own monthly goals!
