How to Make Valentine’s at Home Extra Special

Ideas for celebrating and enjoying Valentine's Day at home | photo by Bubbly Design Co.

Earlier this week, I shared a bit about my perspective on Valentine’s Day and mentioned that T-man and I almost always celebrate at home with a quiet night for just the two of us. This year is no different {except for the exchange of our Design Design cards!}, so I thought I’d share a few ideas about how to make Valentine’s at home feel a little extra special.

First up: tidying and decorating. I can already hear you shouting “WHAT?! No way!” but don’t give up on me yet. If I’m going to relax, my space needs to be clean so I think it’s worth the effort to put things away, wipe down a few surfaces and even add something festive to your space. A pop of color that jolts you out of the everyday or a simple vase of flowers can go a long way towards an enjoyable atmosphere.

Because our little 8G apartment is so tiny, I don’t have a big bookshelf or mantle to style so my decorating mind immediately went to our bar cart, which bridges the space between our dining and living rooms. I started by pulling out a few goodies from The Flair Exchange to team up with more Design Design goodies. In just a few minutes, we had a sweet refresh that will make me smile when we go to play bartender this weekend.

Which leads me to my second tip: whip up something special to drink or eat… or both! On a normal weekend, we might have a glass of wine or maybe a gin & tonic if we’re feeling really wild {ha!} but with just a few special ingredients and a little extra effort, the ordinary evening can turn into a romantic Valentine’s Day.

Personally, I’ll be grabbing raspberries so we can make this recipe!

I also think Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to treat yourself to something yummy. Whether you cook a fabulous four-course meal, indulge in a few truffles, or throw some funfetti cupcakes in the oven doesn’t matter; the point is simply to treat yourself to something that will make you happy.

Clearly, I went the funfetti route…

Lastly, don’t forget to do something thoughtful for your love ones. It doesn’t have to be a gift or a dozen red roses, but think of the things that make them smile and then find something simple that lets them know you care about them.

So there you have it–eat, drink, decorate and be merry this Valentine’s Day. Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
