8 Ways to Style a Navy Blazer

Last fall, I invested in a classic piece that I was sure would become a workhorse piece in my wardrobe — a navy blazer from J Crew’s Regent collection. Instead of finding a million ways to wear it, it ended up hanging in my closet for months, getting very little use.

I’m not sure if this was due to my hesitancy to wear navy with denim {it’s a weird tone-on-tone thing I’m still working to get over} or simply a lack of inspiration. Either way, deep down I knew there are no shortage of stylish ways to wear a navy blazer.

To jumpstart my creativity and reestablish this piece as the wardrobe workhorse I know it can be, I scoured the web and came up with 8 creative ways to style a navy blazer. Looking for a few new ways to wear your own navy blazer for spring? Let’s dive in…

From stripes to white jeans, and chambray to more unexpected pieces in peachy orange and purple lace, it’s likely that you already have plenty of pieces to pair with a navy blazer.

1. Over a printed dress

Pair a navy blazer with a dress in a colorful print, then ground the look with coordinated accents in cognac to really make the look pop.

2. With printed pants + black accents

Many shades and styles could work but I particularly love that this look is finished off with a simple black tee and pumps. I’m not usually one for mixing navy and black, but there’s something streamlined about this that works.

3. Highlight the classics

Although this may be more of a “casual Friday” look, it’s the epitome of classic and preppy. White + chambray + navy =  love

4. Sailor stripes

Like #3, navy stripes in any variety pair perfectly with the navy blazer. The grounding element here is the lighter wash denim, with snazzy loafers and a pop of color to finish things off.

5. Pleated perfection

After trying on this dress that didn’t fit quite right, I am on the hunt for a pleated skirt or dress this spring and I’m pleased to see how well the right cut and color could work with my blazer.

6.  A full skirt

I adore this look and would never have thought to put a longer blazer over a full skirt. I’ll have to play with proportions {higher waist and above-the-knee hemline} to replicate the look.

7. Girly lace

Another unexpected combo, where a navy blazer add structure {and a touch of masculinity} to the sweetness of a lace midi dress. Way to go, Kirsten!

8. Go boho

The dress I nabbed during Shopbop’s sale was a big hit on Instagram when paired with a jean jacket–and I’m thinking it could work just as well with a navy blazer.
