Basic Invite Review + Discount Code

If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you know I am a lover and designer of paper goods. It probably sounds cliche, but it all started when I was in the midst of planning our wedding. Everything from fonts, to paper types, to colors, shapes and sizes piqued my interest. In the span of a year of wedding planning {for myself and a few friends}, I had used my sub-par Photoshop skills to create ten or more different invitations and various paper goods.

Although I’ve grown since then, I still don’t talk about my design work all that much on the blog. So when Basic Invite reached out to me about their stationery and printing company, I thought it was about time to change that. I printed some of my latest designs and wanted to share them with you — styled in real life {#IRL} and not just with digital mock-ups. I got a little lost in the site {in a good way!} and got so far down the rabbit hole that I was creating fake Save the Dates for me and T-man! Hah!

Since the site allows you to upload your own designs or customize one of theirs, my first stop was to print our own wedding invitation from 2013 #duh. I did a custom backer color and was able to easily match the purple on the front using their custom color chart.

If you were customizing one of their designs, it’s amazing just how many elements you can change — literally down to the colors of the individual elements, not just the font, background or the envelope. And did I mention, they have over 180 different color options — not just the ones shown here!?

The next thing I tested out was an invite I designed for my sister and brother-in-law’s elopement/wedding celebration on New Year’s Eve. I could’ve styled this invitation for hours, because who doesn’t love gold sequins and black & white striped ribbon?

Another other HUGE thing about Basic Invite is that they let you order a single printed sample of your actual invitation before you place your order. I found the samples to cost around $5 or so, which is reasonable considering the amount of headache it could save you later {plus don’t forget about the discount code}.

When I saw the sample of my Baby Shower invite, I fell in love with the Premium Shimmer paper. It wouldn’t work for every design, but adds the subtlest of textures and shimmers. It was hard to capture in the camera but would be perfect for a girly little invite. The shape was also customized here to make it even more youthful — so cute, right?

After seeing some of my own designs in print, I was pretty smitten but I still had some of the original Basic Invite designs to explore. In another life or maybe just for a future event, I’ll be dying to use their ‘Raised Gold Foil’ options. Gold is hard to print and they nailed it!

And yes, check out that peel & seal envelope in gold shimmer, no less. No gross envelope-licking taste, which really helps when you have lots of cards to send out!

I’ve also always loved the idea of a Save the Date magnet. Your guests just put the printed card up on their fridge anyways, right? So why not make it easier for them and make it a magnet to begin with. Of course, this comes at a slightly higher price point than their paper goods, but I love the concept.

It’s hard to tell this is a magnet, but it is! It was thin and lightweight {read: not expensive to mail, hopefully} and could be customized in so many ways — fonts, text layout, photo, wording, envelope color, etc.

If you have an event coming up or are just looking to order some truly customizable paper goods, I would definitely check them out. The individual samples plus the 15% {using Basic Invite discount code 15FF51} make it a no brainer.
