Ah the days of summer weddings seem long gone, don’t they? With daylight savings behind us, this wedding guest dress may not exactly be relevant but I couldn’t help sharing. It is one of my favorite special occasion pieces and I figured it would allow us to day dream of late summer sunsets together. Plus, in the aftermath of last week’s events, a pretty post from a pretty location felt necessary.

Over the summer, my sister and I traveled to Port Townsend, Washington for a family wedding. It is the most adorable coastal town just a few hours outside Seattle. A few days before our trip, I popped into Bloomingdale’s to see if I could find something new to wear. I have a stable of dresses that work for special events and I try to get at least few wears out of them. I certainly had a few options on hand. But, sometimes you’re just in a mood for something new, right?

I bee-lined it for the AQUA section {more about my love of this brand over here} and tried on nearly 10 dressed before landing on this one. The color! The cut-outs! The length! It’s unique without being over the top and a bit sexy in an understated way. Understated is the key whenever I pick out a wedding guest dress; I never want to come anywhere close to taking eyes off the bride {or simply drawing too much attention}.

Even though I love the dress, I never expected to get the number of compliments that I received from other wedding guests. Although this dress is pretty summery and sold out, I found a similar option in a darker color that’s perfect for fall or winter weddings. Plus, I’ve rounded up some other wedding guest dress options below, many with layers, lace, and a few cut-outs to keep things interesting but seasonally appropriate.

One last note on the photos. Whenever I’m lucky enough to travel with my little sister, I always get at least a few stunning photos out of it. I wish I could afford to have her travel everywhere with me! And, in case you’re planning a trip to Seattle, I’ll be back with my travel diary & itinerary for you guys on Wednesday.
