Well hello 2017!
It has been a whirlwind January. In fact, I was just thinking back and realized I’ve been traveling for 4 out of 5 weekends. T-man and I definitely tend to keep ourselves busy but this may be a record, especially for the first month of the year.
I always want to find a simple way to share the everyday experiences with you guys. I’ve tried Link Love posts, weekend updates, and more. But they didn’t seem to stick in terms of sharing general a recurring quick life update. So I’m trying something a little more casual, inspired by Danielle whose blog I genuinely think you would love & should be reading. These are simple life updates and sharing moments, nothing overly structured but at a minimum I’ll try to do one once per month (likely at the end, recapping the past few weeks) and I’d love to hear what you’re up to, as well!
So back to January. For New Years we visited my parents in Annapolis as my family has a tradition of going to our favorite Mexican spot for all the margaritas and bowling afterwards. We call it New Years Eve Eve and it’s the best. New Years Eve itself was fairly quiet, but we did make Salted Caramel Martinis, which are totally worth the effort!
We celebrated a friend’s birthday at one of my new favorite NYC spots, The House. Then I got hit with a pretty unbearable cold and even took a sick day. Luckily I recovered in time to travel to Maine where my family surprised my grandfather with an 80th birthday party that he thought was a post-Christmas family Yankee Swap. It was absolutely freezing but Higgins Beach is truly my favorite place no matter the weather, see Exhibits A-E below.
This month, I also got a fresh new hair cut, had my company holiday party, and kicked off work on a fun new branding project (I’ll share more soon, I’m super excited about this one). And in adulting topics, I also went to the dentist and a periodontist appointment. I find scheduling all those dreaded appointments early in the year helps me feel immediately productive and healthy. Take care of yourself!
And as you probably saw on my Instagram, last week I traveled to Switzerland for the first time. I’m going to share some thoughts on traveling solo later this week, but needless to say, traveling by myself to a new country for 7 days was exhilarating and exhausting all at the same time. Because it was a work trip, I spent a lot of my time inside a hotel conference room but still managed to get a little taste of Swiss culture. And since clouds hung over Lake Geneva nearly the whole time I was there, I’m already scheming how to get back there in the spring.
Hard to believe one month of the year is already gone, am I right?
