Hard to believe we moved into our house (#no2project) almost one year ago. So much has changed — even the tree seen above has been ripped out and you can now really see how cute the porch is!
Given all the craziness that came with moving, we made some small attempts to decorate for the holidays last year, but really couldn’t go all out. But oh will this year will be different. I cannot wait to decorate! I’ve even seriously considered putting up a tree before Thanksgiving but T-man might think I’ve lost it in the homemaking department. Instead (and really to give my exuberance a focus) we decided to throw our first Holiday Soirée. It’ll be kind of like a housewarming party because we’ve only hosted backyard BBQs this summer.
Whenever I start planning a party, I always begin by thinking of a theme. This doesn’t have to be something literal like “Winter Wonderland”; it could be simply a color palette or an idea of what will happen at the party, how I want it to look and feel. I still go back to these three Christmas color boards I designed a few years ago and reference a lot of that inspiration each year. For the party — and really our home’s holiday feel, in general — I think it will mix a bit of the classic Christmas with a focus on neutrals and just a few pops of pattern (gingham and maybe plaid).
I think this direction will be really fun without going too cheesy holiday.
You can see more inspiration from our mood board on my Pinterest board right here. And if you’re looking for more traditional red & green ideas, try this board. Or this one, which may still be my favorite, filled with non-traditional holiday decor ideas!
The other party details we’ve been working through are the guest list and invitations. We landed with about 30 friends & family members and decided to save paper (and money!) by sending e-invites through Minted. Did you know they offer that and they’re free right now? #notsponsored
Next up, I’m working on the menu and sourcing some holiday decor to make the theme come to life. I can’t wait! I mean, I can because I’m SO not ready but you get what I’m saying 🙂
What are some of your favorite touches or party details from holiday events you’ve attended in the past? I don’t want to forget any details and would love your ideas to make this one memorable!
