Let me start by saying there’s no substitute for truly unique, one-of-kind art whether it be a painting, photograph or something sculptural. But sometimes you’re in a pinch and just really need a room to be finished. Or you’re being indecisive (please tell me I’m not alone) and aren’t ready for an investment. Or maybe you’ve already invested in one killer piece of art for a room but the space requires six more frames. What’s a decorator to do?
Enter Etsy art and digital prints! There’s a whole section and filter for the downloadable variation of art that’s perfect for printing at home. The instant gratification of finding and printing a piece yourself, filling a new frame instantly or just refreshing your space is hard to beat. As are the prices!
We’re starting to think beyond the construction zone that is our upstairs because we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. And so my mind has moved on to finishing touches and I’m thinking that we will be making use of many inexpensive prints balanced with more “grown-up” art from a few favorites (Gray Malin & Joshua Young to name a few).
Here are some of my favorite digital prints from Etsy — all under $30!
Photography & Classic Art:
Photography is the first place my mind goes when I’m trying to find artwork for almost any space. This is especially true for bedrooms and living rooms. If you are building a gallery wall or need a few pieces of art for a single space, a photograph can be a good place to start. The lines, colors and emotion you select can give you a jumping off point for other whimsical, abstract or geometric artwork.
You also can’t go wrong with a print of more traditional artwork or a painting. If your budget allows, always go for the original, but we know that’s not always the case. I find that watercolor translates nicely and is fairly easy to print at home.
Editor’s note: the black & white one isn’t downloadable but the print is so affordable so I included it because I’m obsessed.
Modern, Abstract & Geometric:
You can’t go wrong with something geometric especially in black & white. I find it draws the eye in and you’re unlikely to tire of it. Abstract art is super popular right now, too. I’m particularly a fan of the brushstroke variations.
Whimsical & Word Art:
These options are great for a kids room or nursery, a bath or laundry room or even as a smaller accent piece in a gallery wall. The “Marine Life Alphabet” one is another non-downloadable option, but too cute not to include. It would definitely be worth the wait for shipping it.
And if none of these hit the spot for you, I recommend doing a search on Etsy and using the the Prints —> Digital Prints filter and adding your own terms based on subject matter, color scheme or style.
